Description
1800's Art Nouveau High Relief Hand Chased Pierced Sterling Silver Pedestal BowlPresented is a very attractive and sturdy hand-chased and repousseed pedestal stand or compote, produced in America or Europe in the late 1800's. This antique piece consists of a substantial amount of sterling silver, and the opulent, beautifully symmetrical, very Art Nouveau design is in high relief and with cut-outs, depicting grapes and foliage and elegantly coiling stems. The stem of the stand is in mirror polish, and the base continues the lovely grape motif.
The polished center of the basket bears a hand-scripted monogram, and if you look closely at the edge, you'll see three pseudo-English sterling hallmarks depicting an indistinct King's face in profile, the small letter "a", and the lion passant. This was likely produced by a talented silversmith in America near the close of the 19th century.
The condition of the piece is very good. Designs are crisp and there are no damages or monogram removals.
Dimensions: 3 1/4 inches tall with the top having a 7 1/4 inch diameter. The base diameter is 3 5/8 inches.
Weight: 11 oz (313 grams)
